Beaches - The beaches of Cabanas Velhas, Boca do Rio and Salema are within walking distance of half an hour. Another five beaches are ten minutes drive away. All the beaches have soft golden sand and are extremely clean. Two equestrian centres are within 1km and there is also an excellent sports centre 2km away. It is English owned with facilities for squash, tennis, swimming and weight training. There is an Art School at Burgau, also English owned. The Parque da Floresta golf and country club is 3km away with the most challenging course in Europe.
Cape St Vincent is the most south-westerly point of mainland Europe and is known as the "end of the world". Around 200 ships a day can be seen from the Cape's famous lighthouse turning the corner on the main route between the Mediterranean and the north Atlantic. During the daytime you can climb the steps to examine the lighting mechanism which can throw a beam 60 miles out to sea.
Sagres is where you will find the remains of the fortress built for Prince Henry the Navigator. Evidence of his famous school of navigation can be seen - an old chapel, stones laid out in the form of a mariner's compass. The atmosphere of the peninsula, known as the Sacred Promontory since prehistoric times, fires the imagination. The coastal views are dramatic. Numerous restaurants are in the vicinity.

Penina - 4 Kms after Portimao by the NA125.
Quinta do Gramacho - On the NA125 turn south at the Lagoa roundabout.
Vale da Pinta - On the NA125 turn south at the Lagoa roundabout.
Palmares - Take the NA125 to Lagos, turn left to the Meia Praia road.
